Next week is Reading Week followed by week 9
Monday 2nd November is GPS training with me; How Pupils Learn Part 3: Application of Cognitive Architecture Strategies and a catch-up on Curriculum Tasks. We can also do a Q&A on any matters arising.
Wednesday 4th November Twilight is a live session on Numeracy across the curriculum with Laura Heritage, Head of Maths, Guilsborough Academy. Laura does a fabulous interactive session, so please make sure you are able to fully engage.
Your weekly in-school training record for week 9 should be downloaded and saved. Complete the necessary sections (A,B and C) before the mentor meeting and email to your mentor before your mentor meeting.
Things to be working on:
University Assignment 1 Observation week 9 and 10: Agree with your mentor which lesson segment you will observe. Complete the observation form by hand. Discuss the observation with your mentor and ask them to complete the section on the form. Mentors have had a briefing document on this, but please remember that it is new to them, as well. Direct questions to me. For detailed instructions revisit your training notes form David Wharton and the Ua1 brief. Observation notes are submitted to Turnitin by 20th November. Assie will send you instructions for Turnitin after the reading week. You can also be getting ahead with the reading attached to Ua1.
Curriculum Tasks (on-going)
Task 1. When: agreed with subject leader
SEND case study. When 15th December. The presentation to the SEND Lead.
Every week you update your Subject Substantive Knowledge document.
Observations:
Focused lesson observation as prescribed in the in-school training record. You use the form provided here. Record with a hyperlink in the Training, Reflection and Tracking form here. Don’t forget that you need your informal feedback notebook to give to class teachers very time you teach unless they are doing a formal observation.
Teaching and observations of you:
You should now be building up your teaching aiming to be teaching all lessons on your timetable fully by the end of November. How you do this, is up to you and your mentor, but if you are unsure, drop your subject lead an email. You will now need two formal lesson observations every week. The form is here The observations should be saved in your Drive with the lesson plan and resources linked to the lesson in a dated folder for the class.
Key steps:
- Agree with your mentor which two lessons will be formally observed in the week ahead. (Aim to be observed on a rotation with all classes).
- Download the observation form, fill in the details at the top of the form for your observer. (Tip: if you have a master observation form for each class, you don’t need to fill in the same class details every time).
- Copy and paste your targets on to the form.
- Email the form to the teacher observing.
- All observations are returned to you (or saved on your Drive) and shared with your mentor before your mentor meeting. (You and your mentor need to be looking at the observations every week).
Informal Observations:
In lessons where you are not being formally observed, teachers should be writing feedback in your notebook. Use a post-it note to ensure the teachers know your targets. A sharp focus on your targets helps you make progress and helps your mentor understand how you are doing across your classes.
Questions: none this week.
Other news:
Have a wonderful half-term and rest.
Ann
