Dear All,
Welcome to the week 5 round-up. I hope you have all had a great week being back in school following ITaP2. Everyone should now have completed their two embedding days with their mentor in school. Thank you to the Maths team for inviting Richard Cahill from the Trust to sit in on their Friday training session. He was very impressed, which is always lovely to hear. From next week we will start teaching placement properly. Hopefully you all have your timetables, if not, please speak to your subject leader or link director. There is no need to upload timetables or share them with the wider team just yet, as they could still change. Please upload them to the Google Classroom (SE1 teaching timetables), when Assie prompts you.
We would expect you to be observing the classes you teach over the coming weeks with an aim to picking up bits of micro-teaching. Teaching will become more regular and increase after the October reading week. Of course, some of you may want to build on the teaching you have already done and really get stuck in; please go ahead. As long as you are comfortable. As we begin to get settled into the routine of teaching, the different forms we use should become easier.
Next week:
Monday's training is the launch of University Assignment 1 with Dr. David Wharton and KS2 Curriculum with Rebecca Hughes, who joins us from a local primary school.
Wednesday Twilight is a recorded on-line session with NASBTT found on their Trainee Hub found here. NASBTT should have contacted you all individually with your log in details. Please drop Assie a line, if you have not had yours.
Next week we're in week 6. Download and save your in-school training record here
Things to be working on:
School Induction Task - Task 1: Meeting with the SENDo (or delegated person) as a group. When: Any time in Term 1.
School Induction Task - Task 2: School Context When: Anytime in Term 1 with the presentation taking place in week 8 or 9. (A person working on their own, may appear to have a greater workload than someone working in a group, however, it is also true that some things can be achieved more quickly when one is relying solely on oneself. Just a thought. That said, we are mindful of workload, so if you have concerns, please speak to us).
Task 3: Shadowing a TA. When: Any time in Term 1.
Subject Task 1. When: agreed with subject leader
Class Context SE1 forms. When: anytime in Term 1 ready for teaching.
SEND case study. When: begin working on this in Term 2. The presentation to the SEND Lead will take place later in Term 2, likely mid December. TBC
Record what you have done for your subject knowledge on the Log of development of Developing Substantive Subject Knowledge, located in your Training, Reflection and Tracking document. This is a weekly job. (Don't worry, if you are only starting now).
Questions:
There have been a few questions around observations this week. Formal observations of your teaching will begin after the October reading week. If you would like feedback on your micro-teaching moments, please ask staff to use your observation notebook. For your observations of colleagues, including the weekly focused observation (as signposted in your in-school training record), please use this form Don't forget that you cannot edit any documents on the Drive; you need to download your own copy. You need to insert a hyperlink to the focused observation form into your in-school training record (where it asks you) and also into your Training, Reflection and Tracking.
