Week 7 Trainee Digest

Welcome to the weekly round-up. It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the first term.

Next week is week 8:

Monday 19th October is Subject Training for Computing, MFL, Science, D.T., P.E., History and English.

Tuesday 20th October is Maths subject training. Maths trainees should go to their placement school on Monday 19th.

Wednesday Twilight is a recorded session by NASBTT on looking after your well-being. This can be accessed via the Hub Specialist Resources Section

Your weekly in-school training record for week 8 should be downloaded and saved. Complete the necessary sections (A,B and C) before the mentor meeting and email to your mentor before your mentor meeting. Let me know if it helps to have them labelled A-C and we can alter the master moving forwards. Please feel free to change to greyscale, if you prefer it this way.

Things to be working on:

School Induction Task -  Task 1: Meeting with the SENDco (or delegated person) as a group. When: Any time in Term 1.

School Induction Task - Task 2: School Context When: Anytime in Term 1 with the presentation taking place in week 8 or 9. (A person working on their own, may appear to have a greater workload than someone working in a group, however, it is also true that some things can be achieved more quickly when one is relying solely on oneself. Just a thought. That said, we are mindful of workload, so if you have concerns, please speak to us).

Task 3: Shadowing a TA. When: Any time in Term 1.

Subject Task 1. When: agreed with subject leader

Class Context SE1 forms. When: anytime in Term 1 ready for teaching.

SEND case study. When: begin working on this in Term 2. The presentation to the SEND Lead will take place later in Term 2, likely mid-December. TBC

Every week you complete a focused lesson observation as prescribed in the in-school training record. You use the form provided here. From week 8 onwards you will also have two formal lesson observations of your teaching. The form for this is here. Both observations are recorded with a hyperlink in the Training, Reflection and Tracking form can be found  here. Don’t forget that you need your informal feedback notebook to give to class teachers very time you teach unless they are doing a formal observation.

Every week you update your Subject Substantive Knowledge document.

Schemes of Learning: if you have not been given or given access to your department’s schemes of learning, please ask for this. You will need it as you move forwards with planning. We would expect you to be guided with planning and / or co-planning at this stage, as you are learning from the experts.

Questions: none this week.

Other news:

Please note that Assie and Kate finish work at 3pm and will, therefore, not be in the office when you finish Monday training. The Teaching School runs on-line courses in the after-school slots 3.30-5pm, which means that Helen and Claire are often on Zoom calls. If you need Nathan or I at this time, please poke your head through the office door / knock and then come through.

Have a lovely weekend.
