Welcome to the Computer Science web pages for the Grand Union Training Partnership. Here you will find information relevant to the teaching of Computer Science. Computer Science is taught to 11-13 year old students in key stage 3, 14-16 year old students in key stage 4 and 17-18 year old students in key stage 5. Topics covered on training include:

Subject Specific Aims:

The following aims are in addition to the overall aims of the Grand Union Training Partnership.

• To enable Associate Teachers to develop in all their learners an analytical approach to computing, ICT skills and its applications.
• To develop knowledge and understanding of the role of computing  in the whole curriculum and wider industry, with particular reference to the new National Curriculum Key Stages 3 and 4, GCSE Computer Science and  a range of post 16 courses.
• To provide opportunities to develop effective teaching and assessment strategies in the computing classroom, focusing on appropriate planning, methodologies and organisation of the learning environment.
• To consider the role and relationship of teachers and learners in the Computer Science  classroom, with particular reference to individual differences, teaching and learning styles, differentiation and the management of pupil behaviours.
• To increase awareness amongst Associate Teachers of their crucial role in raising awareness of the development of the computing industry opportunities

Training for each subject is undertaken through a number of academic half-day sessions and subject training days held in the various schools throughout the academic year. Potential Associate Teachers wishing to embark on the training programme must possess a relevant degree and grade C, or above, in Maths and English at GCSE. Relevant experience in an educational or industrial field may also be considered.
